Choose attractants by product form

Start with the intended use: an attractant designed to lure animals has a different purpose from a marten barrier on a building. Then compare the form, contents and included accessories. These details help you choose between the individual products.

Marten attractant: spray or gel?

Martenbrown offers marten attractant as a 500 ml spray and a 250 ml gel. Both are intended to attract animals. The product form and described use are the main points to consider when choosing.

Spray and gel compared side by side
Feature Spray Gel
Product „Diebe der Nacht“ Attractant gel for martens
Contents 500 ml 250 ml
Form Spray Mouldable gel
Use Direct bait and scent trails With a live capture trap or bait box

Which format suits the intended use?

If you are looking for an attractant to lay scent trails, look at the 500-ml spray „Diebe der Nacht“. It is also intended for use as direct bait. If you want a mouldable gel for a live capture trap or bait box, compare the 250-ml version. The gel includes a pair of gloves.

Follow the product instructions in each case, as well as the intended use of any trap or bait box. Pack size alone does not tell you how many applications are possible or which product attracts animals better.

Is marten attractant also intended to deter martens?

An attractant is intended to lure animals. If you want to secure access points to your home, the guide to martens around the house helps you assess possible measures instead.

Mouldable bait for mice and rats

For mice and rats, there is Nagerschmaus (200 ml), a mouldable bait. This product should be considered separately from the two marten attractants.

Beechwood tar and products for wild boar

Wildhunter beechwood tar (500 ml) has a brush integrated into the lid. You can also find beechwood tar in a 5-litre container. Compare quantity and container form here. The wild boar attractant mix with 2.5 kg is mixed with water before use; the details are on the label. The wild boar feeding drum is an accessory instead: a feeding drum with a capacity of 20 l.

Decoy or set: check what is included

The Lockei decoy egg for trapping is a reusable imitation egg made from solid plastic. The indoor fruit fly set includes 500 ml of attractant, a spray head and three bait traps. Product type and included accessories therefore differ significantly; check what is included with the item you choose.

Read our guide to decoy eggs and scent lures to see how a plastic imitation egg differs from a scent attractant.
